Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi expressed condolences over the deaths of scores of Pakistanis in a recent bomb attack in southwestern Pakistan.
In a message to his Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar on Sunday, Salehi offered condolences over the attack, which left more than 80 people dead and injured many others.
The minister called on the government, religious figures, and the Pakistani people to take needful measures to stop bloodshed of Muslims in the country, IRIB reported.
He also noted that such a massacre is part of the divisive policies of the enemies of Islam.
The attack took place in a crowded vegetable market in the town of Hazara, on the outskirts of Quetta in Pakistan’s southwestern Baluchistan province, on Saturday. The area is mostly inhabited by Shiite Muslims.
According to the latest reports, 84 people were killed in the attack and around 200 others were wounded. On January 10, nearly 130 people were killed and many others injured in a wave of deadly bomb attacks targeting both Pakistani security guards and civilians in Quetta.
Following the incident, massive protests broke out across the country to denounce the violence against Shiite Muslims, with protesters accusing the Pakistani government of failing to take enough action to prevent terror attacks on the Shiite community.
Shiites make up 20 percent of the country’s 180-million-strong population.
Since the beginning of 2012, hundreds of Shiites have been killed in Pakistan. The attacks have targeted many doctors, engineers, high-ranking government officials, teachers, and politicians.
Terrorist Acts in Iraq
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast also condemned terrorist attacks in Iraq, stressing that such moves are part of campaign targeting the country’s independence, unity, peace and stability.
Sympathizing with the families of the victims of Iraq’s bombings, Mehmanparast said Tehran believed various Iraqi political groups could successfully overcome the existing security crisis through negotiations and preventing foreign interference.
He voiced Tehran’s all-out support for the people and government of Iraq in their efforts to fight terrorism and provide security.
Mehmanparast further stressed that Iran believes that the Iraqi people and officials are capable of eradicating violence and restoring peace and stability to their country. They are also able to defend Iraq’s independence and sovereignty vis-à-vis the enemies’ conspiracies, he added.
Meanwhile, Ayatollah Mohsen Araki, secretary general of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (WFPIST) strongly condemned the bloodshed in Pakistan and a series of deadly car bombings in Iraq.
Araki said such attacks are aimed at fomenting discord among followers of Islamic schools of thought and undermining unity.
The ayatollah urged top religious authorities in the Islamic world to enlighten Muslims about the objectives of such attacks by denouncing them.
On Sunday, a string of car bombings tore through Shiite neighborhoods in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, killing nearly 40 people and wounding over 100.
Al-Qaeda’s local franchise in Iraq claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Fernandez Warns of PlotsBy Opponents of Iran Ties
Argentinean President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner says any third attack on the Jewish community center, AMIA, will be carried out by opponents of the recent Tehran-Buenos Aires agreement to investigate the 1994 bombing on the center.
Kirchner made the remark in reaction to AMIA President Guillermo Borger who claimed the Iran-Argentina memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in January ‘will allow a third bombing in Argentina’, Press TV reported.
“I read with concern Borger’s remarks. I respect Mr. Borger, but what makes him speak about such a horrible incident?” she asked.
“In that case, if any suicide attack occurs due to the MoU [signed] with Iran, who will be its spiritual and material mastermind?” asked the Argentinean president.
“Obviously, the signatories [to the MoU] will not mastermind any attack. Hence, will the masterminds be those who oppose the MoU? Or a country, intelligence agents and organizations of certain states? In that case, who would be committing such a strike and what would he be driving at?” she noted.
On January 27, Iran’s Foreign Minister and his Argentinean counterpart Hector Timerman signed an MoU for the two countries to shed light on the 1994 bombing on the AMIA building in Buenos Aires that killed 85 people.
The Israeli regime reacted angrily to the deal a day after it was signed. “We are stunned by this news item and we will want to receive from the Argentine government a complete picture as to what was agreed upon because this entire affair affects Israel directly,” Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Yigal Palmor, said on January 28.
In a statement on January 30, however, the Argentinean Foreign Ministry said Israel’s demand for explanation over the agreement, described by Argentinean President Fernandez as ‘historic’, was an ‘improper action that is strongly rejected’.
Under intense political pressure from the US and Israel, Argentina had formally accused Iran of having carried out the bomb attack. The Islamic Republic categorically denied any involvement in the terrorist bombing.

Aerodynamics and propellers, aviation management, flight dynamics and control, space science and technology, aerospace structures and aviation management are among the topics to be discussed in the Iranian Aerospace Society’s 12th Conference.
Jamaran 2 Warship to Be Unveiled
Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi has announced the upcoming unveiling of the indigenously-built warship, Jamaran 2.
Vahidi said on Monday that Jamaran 2, a Wave-class warship, and new models of flying boats would be unveiled in the coming months, Press TV reported.
The minister made the remarks on the sidelines of the second conference on developing Iran’s southeastern Makran coast and marine prowess on Monday.
The three-day conference opened on Saturday with the participation of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Chabahar.
In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in the production of essential military equipment and systems.
Iran’s Navy launched the indigenous Sahand destroyer in the southern port of Bandar Abbas on September 8, 2012 alongside the overhauled super-heavy Tareq 901 submarine.
The Iranian Navy launched its first indigenously-built destroyer, Jamaran, in the waters of the Persian Gulf in February 2010. The 1,420-ton vessel is equipped with modern radar systems and other electronic warfare capabilities.
The Iranian defense minister added, “Paying attention to the importance of Makran coast and its strategic role in the field of transit is of high importance and the government has several plans on its agenda, including the creation of the third petrochemical hub in [the southeastern port city of] Chabahar and the development of a free trade zone.”
Counterbalancing US Naval Strategy
Addressing the national conference, Vahidi also said that Iran’s powerful anti-ship cruise and ballistic missiles along the country’s coasts, specially along the southeastern coasts, have acted as a counterbalance to enemies’ naval strategy, Fars News Agency reported. He underlined the strategic role of Makran coasts for Iran’s naval power and security of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
“With its powerful presence in Makran coasts, the (Iranian) Army’s Navy can push back enemies from the (Iranian) coasts and prevent them from carrying out their strategy. When our coastal defense can aim and hit targets deep in waters using our coast-to-sea missiles, that means a failure of the enemies’ strategy,” Vahidi said.
He added that Iran’s anti-ship cruise and ballistic missiles can hit naval targets from a long distance.
“When we have a mighty military power along Makran coasts, no power will dare to ignite fire in the Persian Gulf, and Makran coasts are the real security provider for the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz,” he added.
On Sunday, the Navy said it is establishing a new naval base at the country’s southeastern borders along the coast of the Sea of Oman in a bid to strengthen the country’s line of defense.
The Navy has intensified efforts to develop the Makran coasts, which stretches from Iran’s port city of Bandar Abbas to Makran (also known as Pasabandar).
US, Israeli Apprehension
The US and the Israeli regime are afraid of Iran for being the ‘political mentor’ in the Mideast and not its nuclear program, said Mark Glenn, from the Crescent & Cross Solidarity Movement on Sunday.
